Funding

We are very grateful indeed to the following bodies who have helped to fund our recent excavations and research:

European Research Council

The ERC have funded the project for 5 years which has helped us recover important information about the Mesolithic period, before it deteriorates forever.

English Heritage/Historic England

EH provided funding in 2010 to assess the site conditions and the situation regarding the deterioration of deposits. We have received considerable support over the period of the ERC grant and funding for certain parts of the project.

Natural Environment Research Council

NERC granted an ‘urgency’ grant in 2010 and a collaborative PhD award (with York Archaeological Trust) in October 2010. We have also had funding from the NERC radiocarbon steering committee for Star Carr and Flixton Island Site 2.

British Academy

Funding was provided for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons which supported excavation and specialist work.

Universities of Chester, Manchester and York

These Universities have provided funding, students, equipment and overall general support.

The Vale of Pickering Research Trust

We are grateful to the Trust for many years of support, without which very little would be known about Lake Flixton and the other Early Mesolithic sites in the landscape, or the recent discoveries at Star Carr.
